A Morning Twist

Pictures.  Every picture tells a thousand stories.  Truth! When I work with my clients. I  often tell them to take mental snap shots of how they were feeling when something really wonderful happens; and to hold on to it for when they need it. Go to the file they keep in their mind and pull it out, I think its a very effective tool to take you out of one moment and bring you into another.  Changes the  brain chemistry, makes you smile give you evidence you  can smile and change a mood.  Looking at real pictures does the same thing. There are  articles about how when you  look at travel photos it elevates your mood,  Changes the brain chemistry, makes you feel better!

I am lucky enough to have a snapshot that literally captures a moment in time for me .  The  moment  of time that I count as one of my absolute  happiest of all times,  I can refer to that moment in of time and no matter what I a doing, I can be foaming at the  mouth over a  terrible work situation or a maniac co worker or boss but when I look at that picture I am transported back in time to right there. So I guess I have to tell you about the picture.  A few years ago my oldest daugher got married,  It was a time of great joy as most weddings are;  but it came after a very tragic  few years where my daughter lost her grandparents and my brother.   The last loss was almost too much to bear,  The announcement of her engagement ; her bridal shower and the wedding plans. were all euphoric highs but nothing captured to the moment as this picture.  It was a picture of me. I was the last to come down before the bridal party. A good friend said something to me about being a vision as I past her  seat ( I don't wear dresses often) and I pumped my first and said yes1  At the same time another good friend caught me. smiling and pumping my fists,  All in  that moment. all the unspeakable grief lifted.

It is one of my favorite pictures of me. I am lucky enough to have it ! I can see it clearly in my mind's eye.  I can look t it and it will take my worry away and make me laugh,  It reminds me that life is full of ups and downs and I can get back to that moment of  indescribable joy again So my twist of  gratitude  this morning is that I have that picture, that memory to call on when my life is on the rocks.
